Refresh Your Decor with the Top 5 Home Decor Trends for 2020

home design

With each year comes new home decorating trends. Styles that were in last year have now been abandoned, and replaced by new trends and ideas. It’s up to you about whether to implement these new trends in your home or stick with your own sense of style, but here are the top five home decor trends for 2020—straight from the experts.

1. Mix the old and the new.

The very top trend in interior design right now is creating an eclectic look by mixing items of the past with the present. Display a family heirloom or incorporate furniture pieces like chairs with turned legs.

But remember, there is such a thing as too much. Frequently, when you try too hard, the room can end up looking like a cluttered mess. That’s why it’s important that you stay true to the things you like and use regularly when you’re decorating.

2020 design2. Navy blue is the new “it” color.

Whether you’re painting kitchen cabinets or walls, buying a couch or accents for your room; navy blue is the “it” color for 2020. In fact, stylists recommend veering away from the trendy gray-on-gray color schemes of last year and adding some pop with navy blue.

Use navy blue as an accent wall color in an otherwise-white room or create a blue room with different hues layered on top of each other. Either way, you will be embracing the trendiest color of the year.

3. Remember floral wallpaper from the ‘80s? It’s ba-ack.

Large floral print wallpaper is making a comeback—right now. Unlike the prints of the past, though, these prints are bright and vibrant. With plenty of color and even some metalic versions, stylists anticipate this trend might be one that lasts.

Plus, if you’re not quite sure you’re ready to commit to fully wallpapering a room, there are stick-on options available. Give it a quick try and you can decide for yourself whether you want to love it or leave it.

4. Go dark!

Right now, high-contrast is very big. If you’ve ever had the inclination to paint a door black or some other dark color, now’s your time.

However, if you’re going to work with a dark color, make sure to do so sparingly. This is definitely a case where a little bit goes a long way. Even if you want to have a high-contrast chair, consider having the cushion your dark color while the frame of the chair stays light.

5. Did you know other colors besides white can go in your kitchen?colored kitchen

White kitchens were all the trend in the 2010’s, but the times, they are a-changing. Some designers predict people will start to discover that colors other than white can also belong in a kitchen.

Incorporate trend #2 and play around with navy blue. You could pain your island, cabinets, or an accent wall. Just make sure that you choose one of those so your kitchen doesn’t feel overwhelming.

And, if you’re not sure about adding color to your kitchen, don’t worry. Natural wood colors are back big-time in the kitchen. Use the warm colors in wood to accent your whites, add variety, and still keep a light, airy kitchen vibe.
