Welcome David Dorton, Real Estate Agent

Ever since I was young, I’ve been going inside amazing houses with cool features. Since I was homeschooled beginning in middle school, I had the opportunity to get a part-time job when I was only twelve. I did floor covering in construction. It was hard work. But I loved it! As I went inside all those incredible homes, I would dream about what my future home would look like someday. That’s part of where I developed my love for real estate.

I continued working in construction for nine more years, then I began working at Altec. Today, I’m married, have a beautiful daughter, and get to do what I love every day—build relationships with people and help them buy and sell homes!

Some fun facts about me: I like to sing and play instruments—guitar, drums, and keys. I’ve also been involved with worship music ministry since I was about fourteen years old.

Things I dislike: clearly, all dislikeable things! And that list starts with onions. That’s all I’ll say about that. 😉 I also don’t like heights, spiders, or snakes!

While my love for homes started when I was young, working in construction, what really started my journey into real estate was when someone convinced me I could buy a home. I used to think only a millionaire could afford to own a house instead of renting one. But once I realized that it would be just as cheap, if not cheaper, for me to own a home instead of renting one, I got excited and started house-hunting!

My excitement grew once I got pre-approved. I thought, “Wow, I can actually afford to do this!” I wrote a few offers, but they got turned down. Then I wrote an offer on a house that I really, really wanted, and the seller accepted it! When that happened, I remember how excited I was! That whole process was really fun for me.

After I went to the title company to get my keys, I went to my new house. The feeling of going inside for the first time, realizing that this was my new home and I owned it, was irreplaceable.

I then got to take one of the rooms and remodel it to be something that my daughter wanted. She picked out her room, then we surprised her with it on her birthday.

When I bought my home, I had an awesome buyer’s agent who walked me through the entire home-buying process. I appreciated her help so much! It was as simple as going out and buying a car. She told me what to sign, explained what I was signing, made sure I understood everything, told me when to be there, and told me when I didn’t need to be there. She made it really easy, overall.

I wanted to get into real estate because I love people. I love to help people. I love getting a glimpse into so many people’s lives. I like to see people and talk to them face-to-face. I like to develop connections. I’m so excited that those people will get to do the very same thing I did when I walked into my first home—walk around and visualize what their lives will be like in that new place.

It’s great that I get to be a part of helping them walk through that whole process. I love that I get to be part of one of the biggest purchases they’ll make in their lives. Now that I’m able to help people the same way my agent helped me, it’s a really rewarding career!
