Best Locally Owned Businesses in St Joseph - Superior Professional Window Cleaning
If you own a house, you want to maintain your investment. If you are getting ready to sell your house, you want to present it as well as possible. A good house wash and window cleaning might be just what you need!
David Dorton sat down with local St Joseph business owner Kyle Stafford of Superior Professional Window Cleaning (SPWC) to talk about the services Kyle’s company provides.
House Washing
Kyle shares that the traditional way of washing a house in the past has been to take a high pressure power washer and knock the debris off the surface. That debris includes algae, mildew, dirt, cobwebs, and so on. However, that has caused a lot of damage in the power wash industry where people have damaged paint, surfaces, and so on. Furthermore, it actually does not clean the organic growth on the house.
Through their years of experience, cleaning several hundreds of houses a year, SPWC has developed proprietary soaps and processes that enable them to treat the algae growth on the house.
They still use big power washers, but they also use low pressure tips and utilize surfactants and soaps that target and kill the organic growth on the house. This process also cleans the surface of the home incredibly well.
With the low pressure tips, SPWC is able to rinse, apply, and then rinse off the soaps. They let the soap do the work. Which also means they are not on tall ladders or blasting the debris off.
The problem with simply using a high pressure power washer is that, after knocking off all the black and green growth, it normally comes back in six to eight months because the spores were not killed. But when SPWC uses their types of soaps that target the organic growth, it kills the spores. That is why they offer an 18-month mold-free guarantee on every house they wash. In most cases, Kyle says, their customers can be good for several years, as far as organic growth goes.
Kyle added that many siding manufacturers require, as part of their warranty, that homeowners have their house low pressure washed (also known as soft washed) every three years. So getting your home washed is a good way to maintain your siding warranty.
It is also interesting to note that there are insurance companies on the East Coast that are canceling people’s homeowner policies or not allowing a real estate transaction to go through unless the algae is removed from the exterior of the home.
Window Cleaning
Window cleaning is another valuable service to homeowners from both a maintenance and aesthetic standpoint.
Concerning maintenance, the first thing people need to know is that the tempered glass that has been made over the last twenty years is often cheaply made. “A lot of people don’t realize this,” Kyle says, “and that’s why when we pull up on a house that hasn’t been cleaned for eight, nine, ten years or more, we have to tell them that the first cleaning will hopefully get 90% – we’ll strive for 100% but we may not get all the staining and so on that’s been caused by the damage from the sun and debris on there.”
SPWC recommends having the exterior of your glass maintained at least once a year, but many of their customers get their windows cleaned more than once a year. Many SPWC customers get a cleaning in the spring and fall.
Kyle recommends that if you are going to pay a lot of money for expensive tempered glass windows, you should have them maintained regularly. He still recommends getting older glass maintained too because glass, in general, is porous and debris will get into the glass.
Beyond maintenance, window cleaning is valuable from an aesthetic standpoint as well. Many newer houses have a lot of natural light. You go into the living rooms, the kitchen, and bedrooms, and there is natural light everywhere.
When it comes to selling homes, one of the biggest things that sells is clean. A clean house sells! When people walk in and see that natural light flowing in, it really stands out in the listing pictures and when people are walking through it.
